“The Cresset” was created in a collaboration with Henricus Historical Park. It is a replica 17th century door, like those on the church that sits in the middle of the Citie of Henricus.

The image is a cresset, which is essentially an early street light. The metal basket was filled with wood to burn and placed atop a pole to light the surrounding area.

For the artwork, the fixture is filled with a bounty of hops, while a hop vine climbs toward the full moon. “This seemed like a great way to marry the historical image of the cressets on display at the park with that of the cascade hops being grown at Henricus for use in Steam Bell’s 1611 beer,” artist Mickael Broth explained.

This painting will be auctioned off at HOPS in the PARK with some of the proceeds going to the Henricus Education fund.
